Cocanha- Flame Folclòre
Cocanha, the Occitan duo of Lila Fraysse and Caroline Dufau, resurrect the folk traditions of their southern French region with a ferocity, their voices climbing from murmur to near-scream above the angry slams of a box zither — an instrument so singular in its percussive insistence it makes the album feel like a room with no exits. The politics here are not decorative; they are the architecture, and Fraysse and Dufau use them the way their ancestors must have, as proof that song has always been a form of refusal.
