Barry Walker, usually the pedal steel linchpin in Rose City Band and North Americans, steps out front on At the 13th Moon Gravity Well, leading a group that includes Ripley Johnson and invokes a sound where experimental country and ambient folk fizz and separate like volcanic gases under pressure. Recorded live on the anniversary of the 1980 eruption of Lawetlat'la, these pieces meditate on the slow collapse and restless energy of a volcano, with the mountain itself looming over Walker’s Portland home as both muse and warning.
