Self-Portrait: Allegra Krieger

Artwork by Mickey Miles

For our Self-Portrait series, we invite our favorite musicians to create an audio depiction of themselves through songs from the past and present.

With last year’s standout record I Keep My Feet On The Fragile Plane and its swift B-sides follow-up, Allegra Krieger has begun to amass a worthy share of attention and acclaim. Her fleshy, Joni-eque songs that carve hearts right out of chests have led her opening slots for Angel Olsen, Tomberlin and some upcoming runs with Katy Kirby and Michael Nau. She illuminates a few anchor points for her writing in our first Self-Portrait of 2024.

‘Here I have a playlist of some music I love, featuring some of my favorite artists like Lucinda Williams, Elliott Smith, Arthur Russell, Frank Ocean & Judee Sill with some formative instrumental pieces as well. There’s a soft Misfits cover by Ariel M + some psych country by Hollins & Starr. Eyes of Love made one of my most favorite albums ever & Suzanne Vega is my New York City songwriting queen. Moondog is beautiful. Hope you enjoy what I’ve enjoyed.’
